Lemon offering to Amma

To the fellow bhakta bandavyas - my humble pranams,

I wanted to understand the importance of Lemon in Shree Maatha's pooja, all the goddess's temple I visit I see lemon garlands, lemons being used to decorate the goddess? What is the significance of lemon in the amma pooja?
