Counting - While Tarpana

Is there any technique in which we do counting while doing tarpana.

Any process to keep the count other then counting on japa mala.

                 As we know that tarpana to Mahaganpati is done 4 times for each beejakshara of the mantra and the complete mantra,so the technique is very simple just do this chant the mantra while doing tarpana and count it by observing the four directions around you.Thisvis one of the easiest way to keep focus on the ritual as well as keep the right count in the mind.
